The bottom line...

 He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

Fashion(less)ista

A follow up to the shoe post...

For winter I love skirts...plaid, tweed, tartan...all wool if possible.  Most of them are just below the knee to mid-calf.  But I have a long one I wear when I go to the Mennonites.

All these were a few dollars at the op shops...

For my base layer, I wear black merino thermals (tops and leggings), thick black Explorer socks...and my duckfeet...

this is my latest op shop skirt

And over my thermal top I either wear a wool (preferably) vest, jumper or cardigan.

easy peasy!

Journeying

Thomas Merton wrote:

"We receive enlightenment only in proportion as we give ourselves more and more completely to God by humble submission and love. We do not first see, and then act: we act, then see...and that is why the man who waits to see clearly before he will believe, never starts on the journey."

See you on the road...

Style(less) - the shoes

After Pen posted THIS on her blog, I thought I'd do one on my *dress sense*...or lack there of.

Not that I'm implying Pen doesn't have any dress sense...just that perhaps neither of us are 'followers of fashion', but do our own thing...which is, I think, as it should be...

So...here are my shoes...

From left:

Birkenstock: that I've had for ages (as you can tell) and wear around the house and garden in summer (with or without socks)

Asics: for walking (why do they have to make them in such bright colours???)

Uggs:  sheepskin slippers that I wear in house and garden in winter

Duckfeet:  which I wear everywhere else...summer and winter...because they are so comfortable and I love them so much!!

I do have some black boots, but since I got my Duckfeet I haven't worn them.  Plus a couple of other pairs of shoes that I bought from op shops at various times, but they really should go as they are just taking up space.

So...there you have it...for what it's worth...

The rest of the apparel in next post...

Off with the Uggs...on with the Asics...and off for a walk!

Heading North

Not me.

My blanket...
Au revoir petite couverture

When Ben and Hayley were visiting, they liked the lap blanket I had crocheted, but did not have enough room in their luggage to take it back to Queensland with them.  So yesterday I packed it up and mailed it off.

But not before spending the morning huddled between my heat pump and wood heater trying to get warm.

We had a big frost...

And although the sun was shining it was still cold...cold...cold...

The plants in the garden got a taste of it too...

Pretty aren't they :))

And then this mountain mist (like a sea mist) rolled in...

I thought it was going to snow.  But it didn't.  Just got colder.

And today?  Grey and raining...

But not so cold...

Slow Sunday

Borderline headache today, so didn't go to church, but watched Songs of Praise on ABC TV, and it just so happened to be from St Andrews in Scotland!  God must have known :)

While having my morning coffee and browsing Slow mag...

...I came across an article about Override...a book by Caroline Williams.  Checked the library and they have it, so have reserved it.  Looks interesting...

And a link on Slow website mentioned  this book, which also looks good.  I thought of you Pen :)

After some very cold (-5'C yesterday) and frosty mornings, it is grey...with a hint of blue, here today...

Finished my vest!!!
this photo is closest to the true colour

Not sure what to do with the armholes.  The pattern I used was for a jumper, so at the moment the sides just go straight up with no bands around the arm opening.  I might leave it as is for now and see how it goes...
I can always add bands later...or not!

Enjoy your day...slow or fast...

winter weekend

On a cold frosty morning there is nothing like coffee, fruit sourdough and brie, and a book to browse...

I came across this yummy banana bread recipe in the book...
and as I have some over-ripe bananas, I guess some baking is in order

Have had my friend Debbie staying for a few days.  We talked, shopped, ate, knitted/crocheted, read and watched a movie...

that's my green vest...I am working on the neck band...

She left this morning for her drive home to the south of the state where she lives for 6 months of the year, the other 6 months in India.

So I've been catching up with a few home chores, but will have lunch soon and sit and read/knit for awhile before my afternoon walk.

These are the blanket squares I am knitting in my Mithral wool...

And I have finally found a book I can get into.  Really enjoying it, but then it is set in Scotland, so how could I not like it!!!

Robin Pilcher is the eldest son of Rosamunde Pilcher and I've also enjoyed her books in the past.  I am about halfway through, so will reserve my final judgement, but so far...so good...

Happy hyggling!!
