Tannenbaum

"We have a giant evergreen in the centre of the village, and this is decorated.  Since we have no street lights, we are spared the festoons of coloured bulbs, we have the stars and the tree.  The village store hangs wreaths in the windows, and the farmhouses have candles and wreathed doorways...

At Stillmeadow, we use hemlock boughs from the upper woodlot to decorate the old narrow mantels.  They are not sprayed with gold or silver.  They are just green boughs, for it is the green of evergreen boughs that symbolised immortality."
